The new Marvel Series from Perth Mint debuted in mid-2017 with the Spiderman issue, and Perth is determined to play out the series in full with the quick release of the first 2018 issue bearing Thor’s image. The Spiderman coin was timed for release with the feature film debut of Spiderman: Homecoming. It appears Thor’s appearance is similarly timed with Thor: Ragnarok due in theaters soon as well.
On the reverse side of the 2018 1 oz Tuvalu Thor Marvel Series Silver Coin you’ll find the image of Thor. This is not the Thor depicted by actor Chris Hemsworth in recent motion pictures, but rather the original look found in Marvel Comics. Thor’s powerful figure wields his popular hammer in the left hand with lighting effects in the background design.
The obverse side of all Thor Marvel Series Silver Coins includes the image of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s effigy is captured in right-profile relief in this fourth-generation portrait and was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley.
Perth Mint is the oldest operating facility in Australia. Opened in 1899 as the third and final Royal Mint facility, it outlasted the Sydney and Melbourne Mints and predates the newer sovereign mint of Australia, the Royal Australian Mint.
